Stefano Magri — Perfection is a balance

QUESTIONS

MASTERY

Stefano Magri is a coordinator of all bags development at my favorite atelier in Milan and the main person for Buwood project. Stefano is a master and my teacher. He was the first one out of dozens artisans who immediately recognized what my bag was about. Stefano’s mastery is to translate subtle things into production and do it gracefully.

OUR DIALOGUE

Notes from our dialogue

PERFECTION

Perfection is always a balance between many things. For example, a perfection of the leather in its imperfections, the way its grains are not identical. An experience gives you a balance between an abstract and real perfection.

ATTITUDE

For us, a project is more than just a project. It is like life. After all, life can also be considered as a project. All the rules of life apply to projects: honesty, sincerity, and so on.

HONESTY

When you created something, and the client says: “This is OK, ”and you see that it is not OK, and you can do even better, this is about honesty. And this is how we work.

IMPOSSIBLES

In the past, lots of professionals in Italy have said “impossible” to create my Buwood bag. So I asked Stefano about this. He replied that normally it is just laziness and a habit of doing something in the same way, reluctance to change the approach and to try making it in a new way. You never know in advance whether it is possible to do this, but with courage you go with a client to their goal.

TAKING RISKS

Every time we are at the very edge of risk. The only way you probably know if i is possible or not. Sometimes you have to burn some pies to make a good cake.

BEYOND

It’s essential to feel the idea, beyond the designs.

GENERATIONS

Claudio Cutri is like Leonardo Da Vinci in the craft of handbags and chief craftsman of Buwood. In this video we talked about mastery and different generations.

END OF AN ERA

To do something with hands is “past” for the new generation. We are now at the end of an era.

HANDS INTELLIGENCE

A lot of information comes through your hands. When you use your hands, you understand the skin, its properties, thickness. The feeling confirms whether the figures in a technical description of leathers are actually true.
